now, the boeing 787 is not exactly living the dream. it instead after years of delays, the most technologically advanced airliner has hit some bumps. monday, a fire ignited on board the airplane in boston, and there's been an oily, problems with the brake system, and a cracked a cockpit window. today it was announced the faa would review the airplane, but the authorities stress their belief in its safety. are these just bumps to the road or part of a big problem? joining me earlier, i spoke with paul, who is an expert in aviation. thank you very much for coming in. there is a mixed message from the u.s. regulators. they say the airplane is safe, but they are reviewing its safety. what do you make of that? >> i think the faa wants to assure the public this airplane has met the standards. they're putting together a team to look at it. none of these events look connected. any new aircraft faces these kinds of problems often. when the 777 was introduced, it had problems. it has flown 17 years without a fatality. the 1-380 had cracks in its wings, a very serious on contained engine f

of the economies and that will take a lot of time and political will. >> just briefly, boeing, bad news. >> yes, extraordinary run of accidents on the dream liner, their latest, most technologically advanced plane. going through a list of what's happened this week, and i think we've got pictures of the fire that broke out. the fire's inside, it wasn't serious. no passengers on board and nobody was hurt. then an oil leak the next day, a brake failure the next day, then another leak and a crack in the cockpit windshield as well. what has happened now is the federal regulators in the united states have ordered what is called comprehensive review of all the mechanics of the aircraft, so look at a way in which it works, and where there might be problems. if there are problems. very serious boeing. over the last week a share price has been hit, not seriously, but down 3%-4%. but it is not a crisis for boeing but it was a serious problem and they'll have to deal with it quickly if it is to keep up the sales, which have been going reasonably well. the airline, it has had good reviews until now. >> ok,

.s. regulators ordering a review of boeing 787 dream liner after a series of incidents which put a question mark over the safety of boeing's flagship plane. the shares this week have taken a hit. down another 2% in today's trading session because two more problems with 787s on domestic japanese flights today. there was an oil leak and the other a cracked windshield. phil lebeau is tracking information from washington. >> the ntsb said, this is af plane, feel confident if you are playing it. at the same time, the faa launched a special review looking at reliability and safety of the 787 dreamliner. it'll be run by the faa. but boeing will be assisting in that review and so will some of the suppliers, no doubt, as they look at electronics and use of lithium ion batteries on the dreamliner. remember a lithium ion battery was traced to be the source of the fire of the 787 that caught on fire while parked at a gate in boston on monday. in 2007 the faa made special rules for the use of lithium ion batteries on airplanes because of flammability can concerns. with all of that said, listen to what the he

they are ordering a comprehensive review you whatever that means of boeing's new line of 787 dreamliners in the wake of technical problems. on tuesday, a japan airlines dreamliner spilled about 40-gallons of crew moments before it was set it to take off. they call it a maintenance issue. that was the day after a fire broke out in the belly of a different airliner at logan filling that cab bin with smoke. dan springer is in the pacific northwest home of boeing. a review like this isn't so rare, is it? >> actually it is, shep. an aviation analyst we spoke with here in seattle says it is very unusual and hasn't happened since 1979. as for passenger safety we will have to see what the final report says. meantime the planes will continue to fly. the fire monday in boston triggered the action. a lithium battery which powers the plane when the engines are off overheated. there was a lot of smoke and eventually fire and this follows three electrical problems in december that either grounded planes or diverted flights. the comprehensive review will focus in on the dreamliner entire electrical system. >> this
